The Smithsonian Institution Libraries have a rich collection of vibrantly colored illustrations from books and periodicals featuring French fashion.  Le Journal des dames et des modes (The Journal of Women and Fashion), published in France from 1797 to 1939, offered information on fashion and issues in Paris for women. Fashionable women had to own a bewildering number of outfits for different activities at different times of the day. From 1910 – 1920, there was a shift from corset structured fashion to more loose comfortable styles of dress. These styles set the tone for haute couture in the first half of the 20th century. Anyone who loves fashion and style will love Costumes Parisiens 2011. Each vintage illustraions is accompanied by a spacious grid with lots of writing space. Earth friendly, printed with soya-based inks on FSC certified paper. Beautiful to keep and frame.
